What is Invert Ministries?

Over 1200 youth come to Mekos Skate Park each month. Invert Ministries reaches a whole segment of the population that may never step inside a church under different circumstances. These skaters, who would tend to fall through the cracks of society, feel comfortable here. At this point, Invert Ministries is providing a safe haven for 75 – 100 youth to skate and build relationships with other skaters at fellowship every Sunday.

How did Invert Ministries begin?

From Brent Staul, Founder of Invert Ministries:

God called me to youth ministry while attending Liberty University and Virginia Wesleyan College. For the past 20 years, I have served God by working with youth at several different local churches. I am currently serving as the Local Pastor and Contemporary Worship Minister at Tabernacle United Methodist Church in Poquoson. In 2008, my wife and I felt called to provide a FREE Skate fellowship ministry to share the Gospel in a safe environment and peak the curiosity of today’s youth and young adults.

Our prayer to develop a youth and young adult ministry built around an action sport shop came to fruition in October 2009. Having this opportunity allowed us to build a skate park, as well as provide Skate fellowship. This has been truly an answer to our prayers.
We have an amazing 22,000 square foot facility in Newport News. Our 16,000 square foot skate park includes structures that have superb flow and transitions. Our ramps are designed for each level of skill and can be enjoyed by everyone with skateboards, scooters, BMX, and in-line skates.

When God opened the door for this amazing facility, we recognized the need to create a non-profit 501(c)(3), which we named Invert Ministries – “Invert” meaning to “turn” youth around. Invert provides a unique outreach to at-risk and special needs youth, homeschool, military, and minorities by offering free and reduced price access to our facilities and services. In the Tidewater area, we offer Skate fellowship to small groups, camps, churches, and schools. Our goal is to build positive relationships by showing Christ’s love, understanding, and acceptance through our positive interactions and sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us! ~ Philippians 4:13
